There are water sports available nearby, including scuba diving (Kostrena Diving Centre, 5-minute drive), snorkelling, cruises and jet ski hire, as well as stunning hiking paths along the coast and in the hills inland.

Kostrena Beach is just 8 minutes by car.

Zurkovo Beach (5 minutes) has several cafés and restaurants as well as a lively marina. The charming port of Bakar (15 minutes) is one of the oldest towns on the Adriatic.

There are festivals throughout the year, the best known being Margareta’s Summer, which runs for 40 days from late June to early August.

The town comes alive with cultural events and performances. Rijeka (15 minutes) is Croatia’s main port and makes a fascinating day trip or evening out. For self-catering, Rjeka’s market (Monday to Saturday mornings) is worth a trip.
